						<description><![CDATA[ <br /><strong>ESTORIL, Carcavelos, Portugal (Saturday, April 25, 2009) - </strong>Brazil&#39;s wunderkind Alejo Muniz (BRA) won the ASP WQS 6-Star Estoril Quiksilver Pro 2009 event today finishing on top of the final encounter against fellow finalist Masatoshi Ohno (JPN), clinching crucial 2500 ratings&#39; points and a US$ 25.000 cheque, the richest winner&#39;s prize of the ASP World Qualifying Series (WQS). Muniz, who went through five rounds today defeating favorites and ASP Dream Tour members Tim Boal (FRA) and Marlon Lipke (DEU) on his way to the final, secured his best result to date in Portugal and gets his 2009 ASP season going with a significant confidence boost. ]]></description>

Top seeds and outsiders had to get through two rounds today and sixteen men only remain in contention for the crown. Clouds and tricky two foot waves greeted the first competitors of the 2009 ASP European Junior Tour, the event launching a three-week serie of ASP events with the ASP WQS 6-Star Estoril Quiksilver Pro following the Pro Junior next week. Ten heats only were held on Day 1 of competition, the decreasing conditions forcing officials to put the event on-hold until tomorrow Saturday.</p> ]]></description>

The championship that is going to bring some of the best surfers in the world to the major urban area in Portugal sets off on April 21.<br /><br />The Estoril Quiksilver Pro takes place just a few days after the second World Tour stop, so Portuguese Tiago Pires and Marlon Lipke are already signed up for. They are both top 45 World Tour (WT) surfers and will not lose the first six star championship in their country this year. Nevertheless, last year's event in Estoril was essential for them to qualify for the ASP World Tour, as they gathered also more public support. ]]></description>
