Leonardo Fioravanti won for the second year running the Italian qualifying event!!!
On Friday, June 5th, the Team Quiksilver young surfer Leonardo Fioravanti won for the second year running the Italian qualifying event of the Quiksilver King of The Groms at Ronchi - Poveromo Marina di Massa (MS).
The Roman surfer, just 11-years-old, produced an incredible performance to beat Italian-Hawaiian surfer Joao-Marco Maffini in the final and won the contest. The two surfers were joined in the final by Roberto D'Amico who is another promising Italian surfer as well as a Team Quiksilver rider.
The favourable weather conditions forecast in the days leading up to the event held true and the contest kicked off at 9.00 am with waves a metre and a half high. The temperature rose to 30° as the sun warmed the spectators sitting on the beaches at Ronchi di Massa. Fioravanti used his small, agile physique to his advantage, especially when the waves started to fade in the final heats. He immediately clocked the highest points in the contest by once again demonstrating all-round surf skills beyond his young age.
Fioravanti is now through to the European Final of the Quiksilver King of the Groms 2009 which will be held on August 7th-8th at Zarautz (Basque Country).
