Wales - Arran Bright and Max Payne qualified for the next stage!
June 16, 2011 10:07:24It was a great start to the UK Quiksilver KOTGS series , first stop of the three was Porthcawl Rest bay in Wales.
With Small conditions and sunny weather on hand contest director and Team rider Mark Vaughn held of the event till the afternoon so we would get the in coming push of the tide the Groms were stoked to be part of a great event and kicked of with a tag team. All the groms were surfing really well considering the conditions on hand and the tag team was a great way for the kids to show the local crowd who's the best groms in Wales to date.
On the Sunday again letting the tide play a roll in having the best surf for the Groms we kicked of the event at 3pm with 1/4 finals of the under14's followed by the girl's and Under 16's.
Standouts were Quiksilver rider Max Payne who was showing some great form thoughout the weekend making both finals along with local ripper Arran Bright both making the most out of the 2ft onshore conditions. With small left handers Max was getting the length of ride and being a goofy footer showed of some great surfing but Arran had the bigger moves in the Under 16's final and pipped Max in the last minute of the very close fought final with Max Pechonis close 3rd and Nathanial Jones 4th .
In the Under 14's final again some great surfing from all four surfers Clarion Hughes showing some great form all the way to the final but coming up short of a good wave in the final walking away with 3rd and 4th went to George Hudson again Arron and Max fighting it out for the 1st place this time going to Max.
The girls final was also very close and they were ripping it came down to the last dyeing seconds between Georgia Hughes the daughter of legend british surfer Linda Sharp and Emily Witham both wanting a win but as the horn blew it was Emily who came out on top with 3rd place going to Georgia Hughes , Angharad John in 2nd and 4th place going to Millie Little.
All the Welsh surfers were stoked to have another great event back on the Welsh soil and look forward to Quiksilver coming back next year !!!
Next stop is Ireland's West coast Rosslagh along side with the SeaSessions event till then im going surfing!
